Remodeling Season Is Underway
Submitted by IanIquette on Thu, 05/07/2009 - 06:03.
Now that we are finally getting into some nice weather, lots of spring projects are starting to get under way. When you are out and about, you may see roofing crews at work, or siding being installed on homes. Before you start any remodeling projects, make sure that the right procedures are going to be followed to protect your home from the elements. New windows need to be properly flashed to prevent water damage to wall structure on a home. Chimneys and valleys on a roof project need special attention to properly seal a roof project. Make sure you go over your plans with your builder before a project gets under way. If you are doing the work yourself, have someone else review the plan and get opinions on different building methods. Remember, no one plans to fail, they just fail to plan. If we do not take the time to make a good plan, some of our remodeling projects will come back to haunt us later. Try to think like the weather when doing exterior remodeling. If I was water splashing against the siding, where would I go? Water will take the path of least resistance to the interior of your home. If this path is not properly sealed, many homes will end up with water damage. Good luck with your spring remodeling projects and remember, start with a good plan and follow it through to the end of the project. By doing this you may save yourself some time and money and keep your home in great shape. See the homepage of my home inspection website for all your home inspection needs.
