Home Maintenance IllustrationsThis section will feature various illustrations covering some of the most common defects that are uncovered during a home inspection. We will also cover items that usually generate a lot of questions by customers, and finally we will cover some general maintenance tips here as well. By looking at these illustrations you can make changes to some of these items yourself, or contact the proper contractor to help remedy the situation that your home has.
One example would be downspout extensions. I find that on most homes the extensions are either missing or are not extended far enough away from the foundation of the home. This will cause water to build along the foundation and will eventually lead to water intrusion in the basement. Lets take a look at the first illustration that we have.
Notice that the downspout is draining very close to the foundation. Your downspouts should extend at lest 4' out from the foundation to move water far enough away to prevent water intrusion into the foundation of your home. |
