Beaver Dam Home Inspector Talks About Crickets![]() Do you know what a cricket is? No, not the type that plays beautiful music in your window well at night. The type that will keep water and debris from building up behing your chimney like the one above.
Her is the definition of a cricket as it pertains to home inspection. A cricket is a small peaked roof perpindicular to the main roof slope constructed at the high side of a chimney. So, a cricket is basically a small peak constructed behind your chimeny to prevent the build up of debris, or in the case of our photo above, the growth of small trees. They are generally recommended on chimney that are over 30" wide, however, if you are having problems keeping this area free and clear, you may wish to have one installed on a smaller chimney. |
